User manual of Device Management App

Table of contents

Introduction

Device Management app is used to calibrate, reboot, and update Nwave devices via BLE. Some of these operations are used in the Splace2 and Replacing applications which allow you to manage installations (deployment) and replacements. The application requires an internet connection to make this process secure. User management configuration allows limitation of which operations and on which devices every user (client can have multiple users with different permissions for different projects) can perform. Generally, you need to be not farther than 10 meters to a device to interact with it by the app.

Installation

At the moment, only Android platform is available. You can download it from Google Play Store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.nwave.devicemanagement).

Login

To log into the app, you need an account on d.nwave.io. This account must be created by an active site user and the registration must be completed. After that, you can use the same credentials in the app.

Application view

  1. List of devices with which you can perform different actions.

  2. Button to scan nearby BLE devices (only Nwave devices will be shown).

  3. Button to add devices by their serial number.

  4. Button to scan QR code for adding a device to the list.

  5. Button to enter box number for adding all sensors from the box to the list.

  6. Button to Open options menu.

  7. Pop-up menu with available actions for selected device (click on device record to open the menu).

The application allows you to perform different actions with sensors which were added to the list (6). You can add sensors to the list by scanning nearby BLE devices (2), by scanning QR code on the device (4), by manually entering the device’s serial number (3), by entering box number (especially suitable for in-box firmware update).

Device record on the list shows you:

  • serial number;

  • type of device;

  • firmware name/ version;

  • status of the last operation (the record becomes green after successful command completion).

Calibration

Calibration of parking sensors must be performed after sensor installation and fixing with the parking space is free of vehicles. A smartphone or tablet must have internet connection and be in Bluetooth (5m / 15 ft) range from the calibrated sensor.

Sensors perform continuous self-calibration and after some time will become fully calibrated even if the calibration was performed on an occupied sensor.

To initiate calibration just add a sensor to the list, click on the sensor’s record and click on Calibrate on the pop-up menu.

Important Note: If you are testing occupancy status change with a sensor not firmly fixed to the surface please make sure that the sensor remains stationary and is not moved or rotated during or after calibration. Repeated calibration is required after sensor movement or rotation.

Firmware update

  1. Menu item to select firmware.

  2. Switch to enable/disable Update mode (bulk update).

Step-by-step instruction to update a single device

  1. Select the firmware file by click on Options (stack menu) -> Select Firmware.

  2. Click on selected device record.

  3. Choose Update Firmware item on the pop-up menu.

Step-by-step instruction to perform a bulk update

  1. Select the firmware file by click on Options (stack menu) -> Select Firmware.

  2. Set the Updater Mode: Options -> Updater mode.

  3. Add multiple devices by scanning BLE devices, entering box numbers or its serial numbers.

When a device has been updated its record becomes green. In case of firmware loading error click on the device record and select “Retry”.

For optimal loading speed the box and the phone need to be at least 50ft away from the main pallet or sensor storage (minimizes Bluetooth interference).

Note for bulk update of sensors inside boxes: If you have many sensors nearby (greater than 100) it is better to update boxes one-by-one at least 15m (50ft) away from the rest of the sensors (including updated sensors).
